Job Summary
The MMU Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Mobile Mixing Unit (MMU) used in the on-site manufacturing and charging of bulk explosives for open-pit blasting operations. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, quality controls, and blasting specifications.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-start checks and routine inspections of MMU equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Operator for MMU (Mobile manufacturing Unit) truck for the production and delivery of bulk explosives, Including emulsion and ANFO, in accordance with operational requirements
- Loading of blast holes following approved blast design specifications to ensure optimal fragmentation and safety
- Ensure correct mixing ratio and maintain high product quality during on-site explosives manufacturing by following mixing parameter
- Maintain accurate records of the bulk explosives usage, stock levels, and daily production.
- Adhere strictly to all site safety procedures, blasting protocols and legal regulations governing explosives handling and usage.
- Assist in blast operation activities, including depot mixing and basic plant maintenance.
- Continuously monitor the condition of the MMU truck, promptly report any hazard, defects or abnormalities
- Perform minor maintenance tasks and coordinate major repairs with the maintenance team to minimize downtime.
- Maintain high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness within the MMU and surrounding work areas
- Communicate effectively with blast crew members, supervisors and maintenance personnel to ensure smooth operations.
- Inspect all safety devices installed on the MMU to confirm functionality and report any defects immediately
- Able understand mixing parameter, critical diameter and blend and gassing adjustment
- Prepare and submit on-bench production and quality control (AC) reports to support operational tracking and continuous improvement.
Educational Qualifications, Experience, & Skills Required
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate
- Technical or mechanical training background
- Heavy Duty Equipment Certificate of Competency
- Valid Heavy Duty Driver’s License
- Certificate or formal training in blasting operations (in line with national regulations)
- At least 2–5 years’ experience operating an MMU or similar heavy-duty equipment
- Ability to read and interpret operating manuals and diagrams
- Mechanical knowledge will be an added advantage
- Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
- High integrity and sense of responsibility
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and in a team environment
