Job Summary
The Clinical Officer will be responsible for the coordination of health care services in the district and providing leadership and mentorship of the team for the quality delivery of health services. Clinical Officer open role.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor the activities of the MHC team.
- Assessment, diagnosis and management of clients and patients in line with Government policies.
- Referring of patients requiring further investigations and management to other Health Facilities.
- Ensure standards and quality assurance are maintained in all clinics in line with current national guidelines, protocols and policies recommended by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
- Coordinate clinic operations and ensure all vehicles have fuel for operations.
- Develop and approve staff work plans and share with the supervisors.
- Maintaining proper record systems within the clinics and producing monthly reports for the District Health Office and GAIA.
- Checking and verifying the monthly drug orders for the clinics.
- Manage workplace conflict arising in the clinical area and submit a report to the Projects Coordinator.
- Periodically check the ambulance logbook, general condition of the vehicle and signing fuel orders/ requisitions.
- Coordinate staff allocations for the two mobile health clinics in Nsanje to ensure adequate staff on all working days.
- Support the teams in conducting continuous professional development (CPD) sessions and orient/mentor new and part-time staff.
- Strengthening collaboration with health center staff and community health workers to improve working relationships
- Maintaining a strict medicines consumption monitoring system to prevent stockouts.
- Ensure patients’ and clients’ rights are safeguarded against any harmful practices including reporting of any abuse and neglect
Educational Qualifications, Experience, & Skills Required
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution with a minimum of two years’ experience working in a primary health care setting.
- Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi (MCM) with a valid practicing licenseMalawi business directory
- Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in primary health care
- Skills in supervision, mentorship, team building and conflict management
- Experience working in mobile or outreach health service delivery
- ICT skills in data entry, Microsoft suite and knowledge of Ministry of Health systems and reporting tools (e.g., DHIS2, CommCare).
- Those with certification of Management of HIV in Adults and Children, HIV testing services and screening and diagnosis of cervical cancer will have an added advantage.
