About the Organization
The Hunger Project Malawi (THP – Malawi), is a branch of the Global Hunger Project, a non-profit, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. Our vision is a world where every woman, man and child lead a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity. Our mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. THP-Malawi has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently running programs and projects in the following districts: Blantyre, Chikwawa, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe and Salima.
Job Summary
The positions main objective is to empower THP-Malawi community partners so that they lead healthy, productive and self-reliant lives. The position requires one who shows initiative with problem-solving ability whilst working with the community partners. The position reports to the Project Manager.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- To facilitate planning and implementation of projects activities in partner villages
- To collect relevant data on progress of projects in the partner villages
- To supervise and monitor all activities being carried out in the community
- To assist in mobilizing and organizing the projects communities to participate in project activities
- To ensure that the surroundings are tidy at all times and that epicenter premises and materials are secure at all times
- To supervise all epicenter staff (volunteers), to attend epicenter committee meetings, to supervise Adult Literacy instructors
- To ensure accountability in all transactions done by epicenter committee
- Working hand in hand with the epicenter chairperson to ensure that various committees established at the epicenter level i.e. loans committee, food bank committee, education committee etc are meeting on a monthly basis
- Produce monthly reports every month on the progress of various projects in the partner villages
- Any other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time by the line supervisor
Educational Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required
- Bachelors Degree in Community Development or Social Work or its equivalent
- A minimum of 3 years work experience preferably working with rural communities
- Excellent and strong facilitation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and report writing skills
- Self-motivated and willing to work with minimum supervision
- Willingness to relocate and work in remote areas
- Ability to ride a motorcycle and have a valid motorcycle license.
